9 Ways to Get a Job Youll Love
9 Ways to Get a Job Youll Love Since the economic down turn in 2007, people all over the world have lost their jobs. Yes we are in a recession and yes it is harder to find a job but that does not mean there are no jobs out there. You wouldnât go into an exam unprepared so why go job hunting unprepared? Here are 9 simple steps to getting you the job youâll love: 1) Decide on the job: Firstly decide what type job you would like to apply for and research the job you want before you start anything else! Its important to know what you are trying to get. 2) Create skills audit: Secondly conduct a skills audit it is a great way to clearly lay out all the skills you currently have and how advanced those skills are. It will also document what skills you need for your dream job, where the gaps are in your skill set and how you gain the skills you need. As time goes on you will learn more skills, this means that your skills audit will be different year from year, and it is recommended that you redo your skills audit twice annually. Here are the steps to conducting a skills audit: Write down all the skills you have gained, that you would be able to refer back to and use: including your education (school, college, university), work history (make sure you look at the small detailed tasks as well as the bigger picture) and personal experiences (travelling, countries you have lived in, major events). Critically rate each skill, from 1 (low) â" 10 (high), in terms of your experience level. Write down all the jobs you would like to have. Write down all the skills needed for those jobs (look at real job descriptions). Write down any skills you need to gain or improve to land those jobs. Write down how you can develop the skills in question (you may need to take on other jobs to develop particular skills before you can land that dream one). There are a few optional extras depending on what you want and on your circumstances: time frame needed to develop skills, companies that would be particularly good in nurturing those skills and countries where you can develop further (particularly in relation to language skills). Add all of these details into a spread sheet, adding your plan and best route into that dream job. Make the plan visible (print and stick on your wall) and implement! 3) Create a CV: Your skills audit is now complete, from here you will know if you currently have the right skills to proceed in applying for your dream job or do you need to further your education and experience. You can now begin writing your CV. Below are comprehensive CV guidelines, which remove the unnecessary information from a CV and strengthen the essential information that employers look for on a CV: Personal information: Name address and contact information (email and phone number) Brief profile description: Talk about your past skills experience and what you want to do next. Work experience: Newest to oldest, employer name, the company name address, your position, dates of employment, include any achievements. Use key words from the advertisement. Education: Use a brief overview of your results history (e.g Leaving Certificate 450 points). Skills qualifications: Use key words from the job ad to answer the questions the employer is asking. Highlight specific skills and qualifications starting with the most relevant to the particular job application. This also involves career goals achieved. Hobbies, interests other skills: This includes your interests and other skills you have achieved (such as committee memberships, intern experiences, relevant volunteer work). References: Name, number, position and address (you MUST ask this person can you place this information on your CV) RELATED: Top 10 Things NOT to Include on Your CV 4) Shortlist companies: Then shortlist all of the jobs you would like to apply for. This is where your skills audit will help you, you now know the skills you have and if they are required for the jobs in your list. 5) Tailor your CV: Your CV must be now rewritten for the jobs you are applying for. Always, always, always tailor your CV to the job that you are applying for. This is a big must. Use key words from the job advert in your CV; this helps the employer identify the good candidates from the great. 6) Put extra info into your cover letter: At this point you will now write your cover letter for the job you are applying for, again tailoring it to each job you apply for and here you will add in any extra information. This letter should be personally addressed to the recruiter of the company (if you donât know who that is try researching online using tools like LinkedIn). Use information that will grab their attention it should be again different for every job you are applying for. Key words and key phrases are important here, show the company what they will gain if they hire you and what you can offer them. Be positive and knowledgeable. Give a date that you are available to start on. RELATED: 5 Rules to Keeping Your Cover Letter Simple and Effective 7) Apply for the job: You are now ready to apply for the job, you have a great strong CV that the employer will recognise and this will make you stand out from the other candidates. Your cover letter is tailored to the company to display how you will fit in with the company ethos. Sending the application is half of the work. If you do not hear anything back from them after one week, be proactive give them a call, this will show you are eager to work for their company. Now you have to prepare for the interview. 8) Prepare for the interview: Research the company: make sure you look into the company, its customers and news. Research the job position: understand the role you are applying for and bring ideas. Practice sample questions: have answers prepared for what they might ask they might ask about experience or your input on a problem they have. Prepare some questions to ask the recruiter: do not just ask about salary you will need to demonstrate your interest in the company and job, while also showing your drive and ambitions to succeed in your career Find out the exact location: know where you are going and DONâT BE LATE! Bring documentation: Bring your CV and any other relevant documents (e.g. past projects) After the interview, it is good manners to send the recruiter an email thanking them for their time, this also keeps our name fresh in their heads. Do connect with the recruiters and managers you meet via LinkedIn this will also give you that connection which might be of use in the future and it gives them the opportunity to contact you again should another position arise! 9) Take the job! Simple. This article is everything you need to know and do to apply for and succeed in being offered that dream job. If you follow these steps and guidelines youâll be on the fast track to attain your ideal job. Do you have anymore tips? Please let us know in the comments below! But if you want to get an expert resume writer, who can customize the content of your resume, then you should consider hiring one.A good resume writer can make a job seeker's life easier. A quality resume should be able to boost your chances of being hired. It should also spell out to the concerned authorities, the kind of work you have done previously and how it suits your s kill set. If you are interested in getting a good resume written for you, you can also take help from experienced professionals who are willing to write your resume for you.In fact, hiring one of these professionals can prove to be extremely beneficial. One of the most important things that these professionals are able to do is they write a resume that shows your capacity to work. For instance, if you have more than four years of work experience, your resume may be able to get you a position at a similar job in the same firm. The resume written by the professional should be able to reveal the kind of work experience which is a requirement of the job for which you are applying. However, a resume that does not highlight your ability to work at the same level for more than four years will not serve your purpose. Hence, if you are interested in getting a perfect resume written for you, you should first make sure that the writer you are hiring has the necessary experience in writing a res ume to impress an employer. As a matter of fact, a fresh resume is the one that should really impress the concerned person. A resume written by a professional should include all the basic details of the job and also the most basic criteria for the job in order to impress the concerned authorities.A resume written by the professional should also be prepared in a manner in which it would not be difficult for the employer to find information about you. The resume should also not be littered with irrelevant data, for the writer of the resume may need to refer to the resume at some point of time in order to carry out a proper search. In this way, the writer of the resume will be able to show his / her professional expertise and also demonstrate the level of commitment towards the job.The resume should also co ntain all the necessary information about your achievements so that the concerned individual can see that you are not just a lazy job seeker. In fact, if the resume is presented properly, it will help the employer to assess your suitability for the job and whether you are suitable for the job in the first place. Thus, if you want to be competitive in the job market, then a professional resume writer can be of great help to you.

Thinking About Being an Entrepreneur Five Things to Consider
Thinking About Being an Entrepreneur Five Things to Consider I often get questions as to whether being an entrepreneur is the right path for someone. To be honest, if youâre asking that question, it might not be rightâ"but, it might. What I am speaking about is a long-term entrepreneur. The kind who wants to build an enduring product and service. Not someone who starts something, and leaves. When people say to me âI think I want to be an entrepreneur,â here are the top five things I would consider as a first time, potential entrepreneur. 5 Crucial Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs 1. Successful entrepreneurs commit until their dream is a reality. It burns. Itâs not something you can ignore. When I was starting UniversalGiving ®, I had big white boards in my room with black capital letters on them that said âYOU WILL NOT GIVE UP.â That was my greeting every morning. Doesnât matter how many tough things happen, youâre going to make this happen. Blocks will come. You will overcome. That might seem very bold to you, but why was I doing it? As much as I wanted it, as much as I had the driveâ"I was still afraid. There is a difference between fear and overcoming it, and fear and questioning if you should start something. There was no question. But those signs were my encouragement. No one will ever encourage you more than you. You need to have a great, âbest friendâ relationship with yourself so that you are honest about your capabilities, what you can do, and what you WILL COMMIT TO DO IT REGARDLESS of the circumstances. Thatâs the deal. If this scares you, thatâs ok. Why not be a part of an entrepreneurial team or startup instead? You get many benefits and the excitement of creating, without the full weight of leading the company. 2. Successful entrepreneurs make the world better or faster. Your idea in some way inspires you to make the world better. Itâs usually from your personal experience or observation. You want to use the productâ"and you want others to use it too. That doesnât mean your product is necessarily about philanthropy; it could be making a task easier or quicker, such as Evernote or Wayz. These simple apps make your day more enjoyable. You feel like you have more power over your life. 3. Successful entrepreneurs want to build. A lot of people have ideas. And after you launch, many will tell you they âhad the same idea.â But you built it. Now, you need to build to a different levelâ"so that your idea and company stick around. Find people who want to operate in a stable role. You need good, solid managers who champion your product and help you build it across sales, marketing, product development, client service. They ensure that all the nuts and bolts are in place, and with excellence. Thatâs a good manager, and theyâre rare. 4. Successful entrepreneurs build their advisor teams immediately. This cannot be about you. You need to surround yourself with many other supporters, as soon as you can. This is a Board of Directors and Board of Advisors. Others are informal confidantes and supporters. All of them help push your idea and service forwardâ"itâs not just your paid staff. 5. Successful entrepreneurs are happy with the work they do. Think the above sounds aggressive or stressful? Thatâs where entrepreneurs can not only tolerate it but are also inspired by it. Yes, weâre crazy and thatâs ok. We need other people at our organization who are not inspired by craziness, and can provide stability. Being an entrepreneur is challenging. We are inspired by the win of climbing to the top of the mountain. We should celebrate and enjoy the view, and take some time for gratitudeâ"which should be done more often. But weâre not sitting there breaking out a picnic. Weâre looking over the lay of creation and at the next horizon. âWhat mountain am I scaling next?â If you are reading this, you might understand why I get a little concerned when people say âI think I want to be an entrepreneurâ or âWhat qualities do I need to be one?â Itâs not a position, itâs a life-calling. Itâs not on the requirements of a job, itâs in your heart. That doesnât mean entrepreneurship canât be cultivated within, and through time, and with classes. I wouldnât say itâs the norm. But as an entrepreneur, I am not going to say, âItâs impossible.â Thatâs just negative and limiting, and gsuccessful entrepreneurs should be open to anything.

The Future of Online Recruitment - OneOne Relationships - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
The Future of Online Recruitment - OneOne Relationships - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Its Monday and since I was out last week (I still blogged) I want to treat you to a very important post. Ive been thinking about relationships for the past few months and even at the time when I was applying for jobs. Believe it or not, the future recruitment is in relationships, not resume submissions. Ive learned that through networking, you can skip steps in recruitment, as well as become recruited based on your personal brand. I used to apply for jobs the old fashion way and it took months, but now it takes no time because I know people. I look back and laugh at the volume of resumes I sent and the lack of results. With blogging and social networks, I feel Ill never have to apply or interview for another job again. People know me from what Ive produced and thats the real value and human interaction needed to be a part of any company. To bond with new people who have opportunities waiting for you is what will make you successful. The days of applying to jobs through corporate websites and job listing repositories will end. As the competition to get jobs increases year over year, the amount of resumes and cover letters HRMs (Human Resource Management Systems) will hold will overflow and even crawlers wont be able to save them. When you have a million resumes, and a crawler finds certain keywords, there will still be too many leftover, meaning they will have to interview a larger batch. This costs HR more money and the applicant more time. When I was applying for both internships in jobs, over a four year span, only a small fraction of my submissions turned into interviews and even fewer job offers. I had no network or understanding of how to bypass these dumb systems that left me in the black hole. Online Recruitment has 2 Faces 1:Many When you tackle recruitment with this face, you are submitting your resume and cover letter to corporate sites, such as HP and Viacom (listed below), and job banks, such as Careerbuilder.com and Monster.com. Do you really know where your materials are going? I do! They are landing in a repository with thousands of other resumes for the same job, which are usually tossed aside when people have connections for that same job. One way to spend countless hours, days and months in your job search is by using this traditional method. Most jobs arent even listed on these websites anyways, but rather set internally for special positions that pay more, have more benefits and a better title. 1:1 Companies and people want to hire people who they know, trust and respect. 1:Many fails because there is no human element. Ive had friends whove gotten jobs within a few weeks, without taking a single interview because of the strength of their network. With either an online or offline network, you can tap into people who either already know who you are or know of you from someone else they respect. The future of online recruitment is in 1:1 relationships, where you find people online, through social networks or blogs and form a relationship through mutual interest and a job opportunity is created. Through the power of web 2.0, its fairly easy to perform some searches and find people who work at either Fortune 500 companies or small firms. Your conversation might be around what its like to work at their company or the topic they write about on their blog. If youve built your brand online, they can quickly inspect you without you even saying a word to know if youd be a good match for their company. If you focus 100% of your job search energy on meeting new people, then the probability that youll land a job will drastically increase, as well as your social circle and livelihood. The truth is that people hire people. You cant stand out if youre another line in a recruiting database or if you just have a resume. In todays world, you need the personality and other differentiating elements to be in the right pile; the job offer pile. What are your thoughts? Care to subscribe to this blog?

The Tale of Two Blazers - Cubicle Chic
The Tale of Two Blazers - Cubicle Chic The Tale of Two Blazers Office fashion, Outfits November 30, 2015 0 CommentsWell, this is my second post featuring sleeveless blazers⦠and this is how much I love them! [See last post here] Theyâre just so versatile for office outfits I canât even! Read on and find out how sleeveless blazers made me talk like a teenagerâ¦Why you want to invest in a good sleeveless blazerIn this post I am featuring two sleeveless blazers with two outfits. These two blazers are very similar in terms of cut, material, length, and general look and feel. Thatâs why I wanted to showcase them side by sider, so you can see the versatility in these blazer vests. You can literally create infinite number of office appropriate outfits here. They are even season-less because you can very easily pair them with a long sleeve piece underneath, and voila you are ready for a chic office look! Crew Clutch: Proenza Schouler PS11 Things to consider before you purchaseFor those of us that are more vertically challenged, always remember to pair them with at least 3 in heels in your outfit. These vests tend to elongate your torso, so if you donât leverage the help of some heels, your legs will proportionally seem shortened. No one wants that! Another thing to be mindful of is where the bottom of the vest rests. For me, I like them to sit right underneath my hip area so it covers my hip area and a bit of my thighs. If you have nice waistlines, I would pick a piece with a cinchable waist line so you can show off your curves! So whatâs your pick, the white one or the black one?I think my heart secretly favors the one blazer just a little more. It shows in the number of times Iâve worn it when compared to the number of times Iâve worn the black piece. It just makes for a more bright and outstanding outfit in my opinion. But you may feel otherwise⦠so whatâs the verdict, white or black?! Blazer: Topshop Turtleneck Sweater: Banana Republic Bracelets Rings: Madewell Watch: Daniel Wellington Necklace: J. Social Media Cannot Be Taught - CareerEnlightenment.com
Second, YouTube has a plethora of free video training on all aspects of social media. In fact, when Im selling my webinar training services to Career Centers at universities, my biggest competition is YouTube. It isnt until I explain that the value in what I do, as different from YouTube, is that Im not just showing people where to click. There is an actual strategy, with clear proven steps, that builds on mere technical knowledge. And I never stopped the career advisors from taking notes. You Cant Advise What You Dont Know YourselfIn a strange way, I really want to give people a magic sheet of paper with all the answers to their social media questions. As advisors, we must be the answer. The value that I strive to impart was the reason behind learning social media. The reason they should learn this stuff That 80 percent of employers are going to look their clients up online. That their first impressions are likely to be online impressions. That flippant comments on Facebook could cost yo u your job.My goal when teaching social media is to impart the importance of really understanding the benefits of using it.Social Media is not a silver bullet by any stretch of the imagination. It is just another tool to be used by a job seeker.Getting comfortable with these technologies takes time. So when you are just getting started, try to resist the desire to have a sheet of paper with all the answers. In due time, you will develop an intuition for the best ways to use these tools. Trust me.To learn more about my curriculum designed to help you teach social media skills to your students based on many years of research, check out this download-able syllabus.
